There is a new push underway in the UK to try to reduce the number of complaints over premium rate phone services. Thousands of people are losing an average of 25 pounds each after signing up for mobile ringtones and games, and this has resulted in over 6,000 complaints in the last year.

The industry watchdog PhonepayPlus is trying to raise awareness about the problem so that people know exactly what they're signing up for. Some customers have been under the mistaken belief that they were buying a low-priced ringtone, and end up paying 30 pounds or more out of pocket for a subscription plan that they never intended to purchase. There are two main reasons why this is happening so often. First, there are a few companies who are being very deceptive with their advertising. On the other h and, there are many consumers who are not reading the fine print about what they are really signing up for when they buy things directly from their mobiles.
